I'm glad you liked my article. I'm also a veteran of shoulder surgery and I too did 4 weeks in a sling followed by 4 weeks of simply "range of motion" exercises before I lifted anything heavier than a coffee mug (or pint of brew). It was a long haul, but I'm glad I did it. Good luck and stick to the Rag for entertainment and motivation. -David +++++++++++++++++++++++ David Alden-St....

A load of Doggcrapp: is Dante Trudel's Doggcrapp training system the next big thing in bodybuilding? Flex, Sept, 2006 by Greg Merritt Let's not call it a revolution yet, but if the '70s were the era of Arnold (double splits, high volume) and the '90s were the years of Yates (high intensity, low frequency), then this decade may be remembered as the age of Doggcrapp. Try to ignore the ...

I use a swiss ball quite a bit but only for ab exercises. I think you get a good range of motion because you can go back further. I will usually hold a 45lb. dumbbell behind my head and do crunches. In my opinion its a pretty good ab workout. A study done by San Diego State University ranks the swiss ball as the 3rd best ab exercise. If I can remember right they might even suggest it as the best...

I know sometimes we have people who just won't take our word for things if there isn't a published source, especially with something like stretching because it's been pounded into us that static stretching is the 'right' way to stretch, anyway the New York Times ran an article in Sundays paper about dynamic stretching... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/ 02/sports/playmagazine/112pewa rm.html...

It's great you are strengthing your back. I would also work on strengthing the stability muscles that hold your spine into place. Oddly, push ups are a great exercise for this as they make the stomach work hard to keep your back straight (if yo udo them properly). Here is a great article on push ups . If you can get one, try doing them by holding a BOSU ball upside down and pressing up. Much...

There's an interesting article in today's Play section of the New York Times on stretching: "Stretching: The Truth." The gist of the story is that the old 30-second stretch actually weakens a muscle and makes one more prone to injury. Dynamic stretching is better than static stretching. I think people who lift weights, if they warm up at all, do the right thing: get the blood ...

Question Hello, I happened upon this website while trying to find more info on physical therapy for my back. The story goes, I fell about 30 feet out of a tree and had 2 compression fracture (T3 T8) and one complete burst fracture (T5).  There was no loss of movement or real damage done to the spinal cord.  I have full functionality of all limbs.  This happened about 3 months ago. Since then I...
