It's impressively shot and has some jaw-dropping moments (the Danny Boy scene and anything with John Turturro) but overall it's just so damn slow that it took me three times to get through the whole thing. It's easily the worst of the Coen brothers, who never did a weak film in my eyes until I watched this. When is a sidewalk fully dressed? When it's Waring Hudsucker!

Yes. It's probably the best Coen Bros film. And even if it's not you'd have to be a certifiable mental case to think it's worse than Burn After Reading, The Ladykillers or Intolerable Cruelty. To this day, it still amazes me how much this film went by the wayside in 1990. Granted, Goodfellas was a masterpiece, but I find Miller's Crossing to be beyond brilliant. Anyone seen this classic film noir ? The ending was a little too upbeat for me, but overall I thought it was great. What did take me by suprise was, although I'm a huge fan of Millers Crossing, I had never realised that it was a reworking of this film, or of Dashiell Hammett's books Red Harvest and The Glass Key.
