This motor Ive got runs great once up on plane but the thing wont idle worth a turd. It appears to be lean sneezing. If i play with the enrichener constantly i can sort of smooth it out but if I just let it run, it will die. Also, the hole shot sux... I have to press the key just before I step on it to get it to come up. Now... The motor is an early 80's 2.4 200 (finger ported) with WH20 ...

I dont know these carbs by heart but the lows speed jet wont affect idle (at least very much, only saying that to save myself), they dont create a restriction until a slight amount of throttle is applied. These carbs have air/fuel mixture screws right??? Its not an EPA motor so they should be sticking out in the open. Have you played with them? Also like fatty said, check the reeds. But ...

P man, you may want to PM Scott in MN, he has a hot carb motor and fools around with jets a lot. He will let you know if you are close with the idle sizes.

the WH20's dont have mixture screws. ... In the daylight I cant see anything coming through the throat but the motor will sneeze and shake, dropping the rpm's each time. Ill check the stator... never thought of that.

Also I forgot to mention this is a 2.4 powerhead mounted on a 2.5 mid.... would it make much of a difference having the bigger exhaust ports in the adaptor ?

I had a similar problem with my 90 Merc, found the carbs were not sync'ed properly and the center carb was open a few thousandths at idle causing the lean sneeze. Also your idle mixture may need adjustment, they should all be the same amount of turns out.
