Falling economy, rising dollar? | Thread profile

I was just checking out the Canadian dollar vs the American dollar and it's way down. I'm surprised. I thought the American economy has since gone down the tubes. Why has the American dollar risen in strength? ... or moreso, how?

uhm...it's not like our economy is on a rapid, flaming spiral into the abyss. It's declining, overall, but not at the rate some would think. It does have upswings.

It's simple really. Rich people are hurting due to the market. They are coming home from Wall Street and killing their angst-ridden-spoiled-emo kids. Less Emos in the USA = increased dollar value. See? Simple.

It has gone up, recently it was close to even. Don't worry though, soon it will be lower and you'll be invaded by Canadians travelers.

Enough about the recssion man this ****s depressin' No but seriously....we aren't nearly as bad of case as we were in the early 90's....its just that most of us were too young to even worry about it then.

Government conspiracy. Probably.

The American dollar is pretty weak. I remember I used to buy magazines and books that would be $6 USD or $8 Canadian. Now whenever I get a magazine, the prices are exactly the same with Canada and USA.

Its because the Fed lowered the interest rate, thus causing a rise in the value of the dollar. At least that's how I'm understanding it.
