QUOTE Eyebrows raised over city school policy that sets 50% as minimum score 1+1=3? In city schools, it's half right Monday, September 22, 2008 By Joe Smydo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pittsburgh Public Schools officials say they want to give struggling children a chance, but the district is raising eyebrows with a policy that sets 50 percent as the minimum score a student ...

This is just sad. They're making it way too f*cking easy for all the people who put no effort into learning anything to be able to go on in life without having gained any bit of knowledge. In my school it's pretty much pass or fail in some classes; no mercy.

QUOTE (DexX @ Sep 27 2008, 10:39) [QUOTE] Do i understand this correctly? The 20%, get marked up to 50 automatically under this policy? So in theory, i could take a 10-question quiz, and get 2 questions right, and the other 8 wrong. That's 20 percent. Under their system, the actual amount is ignored, only the fact that a failing grade was earned, and 50%, the minimum ...

It's kinda pointless in a way. It seems like something they'd try to boost feelings with but is otherwise useless. 50 is a fail, so it doesn't matter if they spare your feelings. The only way it could be useful is if you had a huge assignment and you were teetering on failure in the class, if you completely bomb the assignment, you're grade only goes down a bit

College-preparatory mission? College isn't anything like public schools, and that's why I hate it when schools act like they're preparing kids for it. College is different because they have what's called asset tests. They actually test to see which level you're at, and then tell you which classes you need to take to get "up-to-level" before you can take the classes you want to. ...

I think they were trying something similar in a school district near me. Teachers can't give a failing grade unless they've tried everything in their power to get the kid to turn in the work. That means contacting the parents, extra tutoring sessions, etc. What a waste of time and money. All a bullsh*t way to fluff the statistics of the district, while letting a bunch of lazy and ...

God bless America, eh? This is seriously the most ridiculous thing I've heard of in a while, and let's not forget about the US wanting to spend 700 BILLION dollars of taxpayer money to bail out their fundamentally flawed system of "sub-prime loans". The system is teaching kids that is alright if you don't try, you'll still get bailed out so you don't feel stupid. What happens when...
