My fiancee is an alcoholic. She has recently begun on her journey to sobriety. She is attending daily AA meetings and events and is on a waiting list for inpatient rehabilitation. I am so very proud of her. She has been sober for 1 1/2 weeks (1 major slip on halloween). She is getting really wrapped up in AA and reading documents about her rehab center. She is waking up early again and taking...

i've been trying to gamble in a controlled way for the past few weeks. but during the past few days it hasn't been controlled at all - running to the atm machine every half hour for more cash. i've tried every possible way i could think of to not gamble yet i always go back to the machines. i'm so sick tomorrow i plan not to gamble . give me some moral support and put your name down if ...

Hey, I just wanna apologize to everyone for my political rantings. Sorry, y'all. I have a tendency to get carried away, and forget that I'm not debating politics with people on the Yahoo message boards. This has been an obviously very divisive campaign season, and frankly, I always hate to see things go down this way in my country. I know I've probably come off in such a way as to ...

So here I am day 1 and honestly it's not as bad as I expected... I just wanted to make a few new friends that I could talk to because I'm not telling anyone in my life about the addiction or the quitting. I've been taking Lortab for about 2 years, but it started out slow, only on the weekends and in small dose (since small doses worked back then). I have been taking them daily for about a ...

As I'm focusing on myself and working on all of the issues that I have (codependency, enabling, food issues, etc), I'm finding that I am really angry with myself for allowing all of the insane things that transpired during my relationship with with my EXABF to happen. I realize now that I should have loved myself enough to understand that I deserve better and should have walked at the first sign ...

I'm new here. As of yesterday. It says introduce yourself. So I am. I'm 38, live in London, UK. I work 27 hours a week for and in public libraries. I write, read, do art, and read some more. I'm in long term psychodynamic psychotherapy, use homeopathy a lot [I'm on anti-depressants as well] and flatshare with a married couple and their 2 year old son. I've never had a ...

I was told that addicts are very angry people underneath the blanket of self medicating. My question is this: Does it seem to others that have loved or love an addict that they display rage, bitterness, vengeance, danger seeking (through promiscuity) or selecting just as dangerous counterparts to nod in agreement to their addiction...the anger and rage - name calling - complete and total ...

When I read posts from you North American folks I often hear you talk about a "fifth" of, say, whiskey. Or maybe a "quart" of vodka. What unit of measurement does this relate to? e.g. Fifth of a pint or fifth of a litre or fifth of a gallon perhaps? Sorry, no funnies here, I genuinely don't know. If anyone would take this a step further and help me out a little more, how many of those fluid ...
