Hi everyone, I live in Perth, Western Australia. I have a fully torn/ruptured achilles but can still hobble around and have little pain. It has been over 3 weeks already and I have the option of surgery or conservative treatment to be made on Tuesday 6/3/07. Initially my physio thought it was just a calf strain and it would get better. My first bit of advice is to go straight into a ...

Hi All, First of all I would like to say that this site is excellent. I've been reading for days and wow it reallys sucks to be AT rupture victim. I shed many tears reading your threads. However they say its good therapy! Any how there is not alot of conservative methods at this site, so all the info I can get is great. I do wonder if I made the right choice. Here I go, ...

I ruptured mine (right knee) about 3 years ago and had a similar experience, altought rehap started about week 5. I was particularly frustrated by the lack of 'aggressive' treatment in re-hab; I didn't care about the pain because I knew that each round of streching and pain just meant more movement in the future. I recently had the same injury occur in my other knee, so I'm back at it again. I'm...

Hi guys, Had my 12 week post ACL reco appointment with my Doc about two weeks ago, he was over the moon. He was really impressed with my recovery, said its super strong, perfect operation and congratulated me on my rehab. I have been riding to work for 4 weeks now, going to the gym around that and basically the knee looked like a new one. Then, on friday night I was drunk at the pub and ...

Today I had my first session with my new physio, who was reccomended to me by my surgeon. It was an outstanding session, and it made me realise how much of a waste of time and effort it was visiting my original physio who shall remain nameless. My new physio is Graeme Backen of the sports medicine centre in Turner. Anyone in Canberra who is having an op would be well advised to go here for ...

Hi, sorry about your injury, I just read an article in J Am Acad Orthop Surg, Vol 15, No 6, June 2007, 350-355. If you can get your hands on the article, it gives a great review of all of the pertinent literature about surgical repair of proximal hamstring avulsions (tearing the hamstring tendons off of the sit-bone). Here is the abstract: Hamstring strain is common in athletes, and ...
