I've only seem four of Mr. Kubricks films to be honest (Full Metal Jacket, Dr Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining)...he is a brilliantly unusual film maker with brilliantly unusual films...this being the case most of them are better the second time around.(at least for me) Which of his films did it take you at least two times too really "get"? for me it was easily Dr. ...

This excerpt is from one of Zizek's books, where he discusses ideological over-identification (Pyle) vs ironic separation (Joker). "Let us further illustrate this gap between an explicit texture and its phantasmic support with an example from cinema. Contrary to its misleading appearance, Robert Altman's MASH is a perfectly conformist film. For all their mockery of authority, practical jokes...

I've heard the Jeremy Bernstein Interview, I've seen that little clip of him at the premiere of 2001: A Space Odyssey... and the clip of a radio interview on "Life in Pictures" are there any other video/audio Kubrick interviews floating around? Some obscure transcripts which I haven't seen before would be awesome, thanks!

I think you're supposed to love both Alex and his violence. Has anyone read Thomas Allen's chapters on Clockwork Orange in "Inside a Film Artist's Maze"? I'll try to paste some pages. "Rape is no laughing matter. Unless you're raping a clown."

"You are going to tell me that Kubrick only made ONE influential film?" Yes I am, prove me otherwise. Do we really need to post all the quotes from Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson, Luis Bunuel, Christopher Nolan, William Friedkin, Michael Mann, Francis Ford Coppola, and Woody Allen where they discuss Kubrick? This is one of the most asinine things I've ever ...

Someone just emailed me this. It's an excerpt from Time Magazine's coverage of "The Dparted": TIME MAGAZINE: Are there any of your own movies you have come back to? JACK NICHOLSON: On TV, if some-thing happens by. MATTT DAMON: If Titanic is on, I cannot turn it off. [Much laughter. DiCaprio nods and smiles wryly.] I say that only half- joking. There are just those movies--GoodFellas is...

So far the Kubrick films I have seen are The Shining 2001 Dr. Strangelove Barry Lyndon Eyes Wide Shut A Clockwork Orange And honestly, I don't really see whats so special about Kubrick. Don't get me wrong, he is a really good director. But people tout him to be some genius. My favorite of his movies that I have seen is 2001. But even that movie I feel is definitely flawed. Most ...

It is my humble opinion that everyone has their "greatest director" poll and comments on such thoughts. But the very thought of Quentin Tarantino ranking alongside Stanley Kubrick is infantile at best, hollow at worse. Ok i'll stop sounding like an english teacher. Stanley Kubrick has no peer. There was a gentleman who wrote that if they collaborated on a film it'll be the best. I...

I've read his entry on wikipedia. So he was a capitalist and a believer in despotism? A liberal? A Social Darwinist? Why would leftists call him a fascist? Leftists believe in stronger government control and are thus closer to fascists that right wingers. The definition of left wing can mean any range of things, so are leftists here more akin to libertarians? But are libertarians not also ...
