I just picked up some
vanilla beans at Costco. It is a card of 2 stoppered vials (5 beans in each vial) for $11.00 and change. I thought that was a really good deal. The beans are from New Guinea and look plump and moist. Janet

Because of my location and the proximity of the stupidmarkets I watch the prices and buy in bulk. The markets must think we are idiots with their savings deals but one is virtually
forced into playing their games. I also carry a little Oscar with some blue ice and an insulated bag. so there are the tallies: Ralphs (Kroger) Paid 62.65 Savings $62.59 Like I would have paid the ...

I read recently that the valuable
nutrients in tomato is best absorbed by us in cooked tomatoes rather than eating them raw. It has now apparently been shown that the way to cook broccoli that retains *most* nutrient value is to use the microwave. (we find using the microwave seems to keep the best flavour, providing a lower wattage setting on the microwave is used). Bearing in ...

Nonnymus wrote: Indian (as in India) cooking frequently uses a spice blend called Masala, with Garam Masala being a spicier version. If you visit an Indian or Pakistani grocery store, there are many brands and it's sold in anything from bulk bags to cardboard containers. It has

I've been doing a lot more Gong Fu brewing in my
Yixing teapots lately since the weather is turning colder and I'm moving into more oolongs, but I've also pretty much completely converted to gaiwans for everything else or at work. I was looking through some of Stephane Erler's amazing photography on Tea Masters and the simplicity and design of the competition tea tasting sets really spoke ...

This is the way I prefer Caesar Salad, regardless of what some here profess as authentic or the use of a nearly raw egg, or merely rubbing the bowl with garlic. I *like* the anchovies and the dash of Worcestershire, coddled egg, etc. Caesar Salad 1/2 to 3/4 cup croutons (see directions below) 1 coddled egg (see directions below) 1 to 2 teaspoons finely
minced garlic (1 to 2...
