I'll keep that in mind, Rayban and Maleva. I saw that they have "Cries And Whispers" at my local DVD store, for $50. A bit pricey, but I'll probably be buying it anyway one of these days. I heard a bit about that movie, and about the prevalent use of the color red in it. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it, since it's considered one of Bergman's most important films.

Be guided by Rayban... CRIES AND WHISPERS is a remarkable film, but it is a very difficult film. In an emotional sense. Having first seen it when my beloved grandmother was dying might have added to the pain, but....let me just say it is a very intense experience.

Tripod, "Persona" is really an important film, it's a very deep meditation on the nature of life itself - it can make extraordinary demands on us and it might cause us to stumble, too. Liv Ullman and Bibi Andersson are very important to the success of Bergman's films - but, I believe, they were a part of his constantly-rotating stock company. If you want to see another Bergman film about ...

Tripod, you were lucky in your choices - "Persona" and "The Passion of Anna" - they're both terrific films. I wish that I could help you with that ending, but I only saw the film once a long time ago. The older you get, the more problems you encounter - well, that film, "Persona", can only deepen with you. The two actresses were exceptional, weren't they?

I bought (and watched) two films by Ingmar Bergman over the weekend, which are very interesting----as expected. These are: "Persona" (1966) and "The Passion Of Anna" (1969). Unfortunately, there's a slight defect on the DVD of the latter, so there's a crucial 4 minutes towards the end of the movie that I was not able to see. I never did find out, as a result, who was the disturbed mind ...

Gahhhhh. About the only thing Tarantino has influenced is shitty, self-aware dialogue loaded with pop-culture references. I blame him for Diablo Cody. He IS a good director, but he needs to stop writing altogether. His shit is terrible. Of course that's not going to happen any time soon because everyone went and made Inglorious Basterdz a hit so now he thinks more than ever that he is just ...

I will be willing to do Ingmar Bergman, after the current thread. _________________ "Genuine tragedies in the world are not conflicts between right and wrong. They are conflicts between two rights." -- Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

Ok, I saw this thread on another board and I thought it was a great idea. These are the movies that I think of as the best movies: In no particular order: Atonement Pride & Prejudice (Keira's and Joe's version) Casablanca Le Pacte des Loupes Das Boot Water (Deepa Mehta) The Shawshank Redemption Immortal Beloved Schindler's List Inglorious Basterds City of God The ...

I have a question about Woody Allen that I hope someone can answer. In his films he seems to always have a character or characters who are shallow or 'false' intellectuals. Is he mocking these people or saying something about their behavior? Sometimes it seems like he takes the 'normal' or 'true' intellectual characters and gives them 'falsely' intellectual dialogue; although this is probably ...
