I just watched Paul Williams in a really stupid Brian De Palma movie called Phantom of the Paradise the other night. He just completely faded out of sight, but he did write a few good tunes.

I would say Brian De Palma, and William Friedkin are up there. De Palma does a brilliant film like Phantom of the paradise, but then does mediocre films like black dahlia. Friedkin does a fantastic film like to live and die in L.A, but then does a weird film like Bug. I dont think Bug is a bad film, its just weird and it creeps me out.

People on IMDb are using some pretty spurious criticisms tbh..... They criticise the fact that Mann's shot the film in HD digital video.... They say that HD is "inappropriate" for a period film set in the 30s, citing the classic gangster films of Cagney, Bogart, Edward G Robinson, etc.... What absolute cr@p.... You'd may as criticise Mann for using colour instead of B/W photography ...
